Joel Matip fires warning to Liverpool teammates ahead of Premier League finale

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has fired a warning to his teammates ahead of a nervy Premier League final day.

The Reds still stand an outside chance of lifting the league title as they sit just one point off league leaders Manchester City with one match remaining. Jurgen Klopp’s side play host to Wolves on the final day of the campaign as City take on Aston Villa, managed by former Reds hero Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool must realistically win against Wolves while hope that City do not pick up three points against Villa, who sit 14 th in the Premier League standings and will be massive underdogs for their final day trip to the Etihad.

However, despite the scenario that they find themselves in, Matip has given a word of advice to his teammates. The Cameroon international has insisted they must not think about the situation that they are in and that they should not pay any attention to what may be going on in Manchester.

Matip told the club’s website : “It will be hard enough and if our head is somewhere else, that would make it even more of a tough challenge. “We can only look at our game. It will be tough enough to play against Wolves, and our full concentration is on Wolves – that’s the only thing we can change and that’s what we are doing.

“We will just try our best. We just can play our games and that’s what we are concentrating on. We try to make it as exciting as possible.”
